Empowering Education Workers

We are dedicated to promoting fairness and equality for all education sector workers. Join us in making a difference!

About Us

The Fairness for Education Workers Union (“FFEWU”) has been established to address what it considers to be unfair treatment of workers in the education sector in Northern Ireland arising from the existing policies and procedures relating to disciplinary matters, grievances, bullying / harassment and more. These issues arise in a range of the Teachers Negotiating Committee (TNC) Policies & Procedures..

Advocacy Initiatives

We believe some of these policies result in unequal treatment, disadvantage, detriment and prejudice to workers in the education sector. Further, we believe that some of the existing policies and procedures give unfair advantage and preference to employing authorities and boards of governors: the playing field is not level in our view. Please see our Issues page for more detail on specific concerns.

Our Objectives

  • to identify and study unfair treatment and prejudice in existing policies and procedures;
  • collect evidence of the above;
  • prepare proposed revisions of policies and procedures;
  • secure the support of other unions in the education sector;
  • jointly engage in the re-negotiation of relevant policies and procedures; and
  • generally promote fair and proper treatment, and protect the interests of, workers in the education sector in the context of employment-related policies, procedures and other matters.

Community Engagement

We are seeking members to support our activities. The FFEWU is a single-purpose trade union and does not offer the full range of union services.  For that reason, we ask members to join us in addition to any existing education sector union membership which should be retained. Membership of the FFEWU is free of charge: it is a “pro bono” organisation.
